Anxiety is a mental condition that effects more than 40 million people in the United States alone. Anxiety can hit any person at any age and at anytime. Usually times of great stress causes anxiety to hit a person hard. Handling your anxiety can be done with prescription drugs, but marijuana has been proven to help people with anxiety, depression and PTDS (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
Symptoms of Anxiety
Unable to breath, dizziness, disorientation, chest pain…these are symptoms of a heart attack. Most people who go to the emergency room thinking that they are having a heart attack, are actually suffering an anxiety attack. But if you are concerned, never risk it, go to the emergency room.
Anxiety attack symptoms:
- Loss of breath – Also, known as shortness of breath accompanied by a choking feeling and hyperventilation.

Anxiety is frightening and can hinder a persons ability to function and have a good quality of life.
Types of Anxiety
- General Anxiety – Insomnia, fatigue, mood swings, loss of focus and restlessness.
- Acute panic attacks – a listed above
- Social Anxiety – fear of social atmospheres.
- OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) – It can include anything from washing hand to flicking a light switch.
- PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) – Common with veterans but can also occur in people who have suffered a seriously devastating event.
Anxiety is a serious problem and needs to be dealt with so it does not become debilitating. No mater the type of anxiety they all can lead to depression, loneliness and suicide.
There are many medications on the market that can have side effects that are debilitating, harmful or deadly .
Marijuana Can Help or Exasperate Anxiety
Marijuana can help people who suffer from anxiety. More and more research is being done on the benefits of marijuana on mental health. If you suffer from anxiety though you need to make sure that you pay attention to the strains that you are using.
Also, start with a little and only use more if you do not feel your anxiety becoming worse. You can find a strain that will work for your anxiety and help you live a better quality of life.
Indica strains of marijuana are known to be more of a couch-lock strain, which means that it will make you relaxed and clam. These weeds best for nighttime, to help you sleep, and/or if you have nothing else to do but veg.
Sativa strains can actually cause anxiety or exasperate your anxiety disorder. But there are a few of sativa strains that do not increase anxiety. Read about the the different strains and the effects before use.
Hybrid Strains are a mix of indica and sativa strains. There are many great hybrids for anxiety.
Anxiety does not have to be debilitating and prevent you from living the life that you want. You can find a strain that helps you function through your day. Do your research and get your medical card, if you need one, and live your life again.
